For decades,
KAMAX has been one of the leading international manufacturers of wheel
studs for the truck and automotive industry.
 KAMAX
wheel studs are manufactured in various geometrical designs, thread forms
and surface finishes for steel and light alloy wheels.
The most
frequently used coatings for these fasteners are phosphate & oil and zinc flake coatings like Dacromet
or Geomet. The latter ones are used where increased corrosion protection is needed.
Depending
on the design of the wheel hub and customer specific requirements, various
concepts are available.
Knurled wheel stud
The knurled
wheel stud has a tried and proven design. It features a knurled shaft
for both tolerance fit and protection against twisting during tightening.
The knurled wheel stud is manufactured entirely by cold forming.
Ground wheel stud
A press fit
ensures that the stud is safely seated in the hub. The protection against
twisting is achieved by a flat surface at the bolt head.
The tight
fitting tolerance (<20µm) on the stud shaft is produced by a grinding
process.
KAWEX wheel stud
The KAWEX
wheel stud developed by KAMAX is a highly refined product, offering numerous
advantages in assembly and function at a reduced price.
KAWEX
studs have decisive advantages over other wheel studs. In particular,
the tolerance fit of customary ground wheel studs must be produced using
expensive grinding processes. The KAWEX stud can be produced
as a high volume production part entirely by cold forming at a favorable
price. After the parts have been forged, a raw profile for the helical
section is rolled into the shaft and then calibrated and processed to
the required tolerance fit diameter (= 20 µm) using modern, precision
rolling machines.
The result
is a smooth and work hardened surface for tolerance fit. The inlet geometry
of the helical profile also makes it easier to press the bolt into the
bore during assembly. Chamfering of the hub bore is not necessary due
to an undercut, that occurs underneath the head while rolling the shaft
section.
Like ground
wheel studs, KAWEX studs can be press fitted and removed
a number of times without damaging the hub bore. Therefore it is not necessary
to maintain special oversized parts for the service market, as it is the
case with knurled studs. The tolerance fit surface area can be produced
in such a way, that the seating pressure remains constant even after repeated
press fittings and removals.
The KAWEX
stud can be used to good advantage in modern aluminium hubs.
