Engine

Connecting rod bolt

Connecting rod bolts are dynamically high-stressed bolts that connect the two halves of the big end of the connecting rod.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • High-strength or ultra-high strength fasteners
  • High fatigue strength
  • Can be bolted multiple times
  • Downsizing potential for use of ultrahigh-strength materials (KXtreme)
  • High resilience through a special design

Valve adjustment bolt

The valve play of truck engines is adjusted via a valve adjustment bolt.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Equipped with sophisticated cold-forming geometries/tolerances with regard to the internal driving feature and ball head geometry
  • Machining finishing for longitudinal and transverse bores, and for the ball
  • As an assembly with premounted ball socket

Drivetrain

Cardan shaft bolt

The Cardan shaft bolt connects the Cardan shaft to the axle differential.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Standard or standard-similar bolt geometry
  • Tight installation conditions equipped with socket wrench recess
  • As a pre-installed assembly, it facilitates handling on the assembly line and reduces assembly times

Locating pin

The locating pin is welded into the body and serves as a nut for the bolted axle connection

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Part with internal bore and thread and an extremely large flange diameter
  • Milling finishing necessary in the area of the internal thread

Wheels

Wheel bolt

The wheel bolt is used to fasten the wheel onto the vehicle. Due to regular tire changes, there is no other connection on the vehicle that is so frequently bolted.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • A bolt head with special lightweight design requires optimized cold-forming processes
  • Equipped with specially matched coating systems
  • The most rigorous requirements imposed on rescrewability, hot loosening behavior, and corrosion protection
  • Safety-relevant fastening

Spare tire holder

This bolt keeps the spare tire in the depression.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Flat bolt head without driving feature
  • In some cases designed with special threads - transmission thread or trapezoidal thread
  • Minimal requirements imposed on the strength of the spare tire holder, usually made of untempered steel)

Suspension

Eccentric bolt

The eccentric bolt is used to adjust the tow and camber on the rear axle.

  • For cost-optimized configurations the eccentric flange, as well as the groove in the threaded part are cold-formed
  • Standard solutions are usually configured in two pieces and the groove is produced in a machining process
  • Due to the groove in the shank, a special thread rolling procedure is required

Ball studs for stabilizers

The ball studs connect the stabilizer of the axle to the wheel carrier.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Cold-formed head geometry as preliminary contour for machined finishing

Seating

Seat fastening bolt

These bolts fasten the seats to the body. Self-tapping bolts are frequently used for this purpose (KXtap).

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Bolt design with tapping shank geometry
  • Inductively hardened tip
  • Special lubricants with suitability for thread forming

Seatbelt fastening

With this bolt, the belt strap of the seat belt is fastened onto the body. This is a pre-assembled solution that is ready for installation.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Pre-assembled solution with application-optimized bolt and metal clip
  • Replaces complex multi-component solutions
  • Reduces process times during assembly

Brakes

Brake caliper fastening

This bolt connects the brake caliper to the brake caliper carrier.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Standard or standard-similar bolt design
  • Micro-encapsulated adhesive coating prevents the connection from loosening in operation.
  • Conceived for increased implementation temperatures, caused through the thermal energy when braking
  • Equipped with a suitable coating system
  • Safety-relevant screwing

Tie rod bolt

The tie rod bolt connects the brake booster housing.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Cold-formed part with demanding tolerances
  • High requirements are imposed on the surface roughness of the smooth shank
  • Different thread diameters and thread positions
  • Special thread with pitch offset

Body

Standard parts

Couplings of body components before the first painting, "body-in white", e.g. for the door hinge threaded connection.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Bolt geometry according to the standard or similar to the standard
  • Minimal requirements are imposed on the corrosion protection, since it will usually be painted over
  • Also available with insertion aids for the optimized bolt assembly process

Ball head bolt

The ball head bolt fastens the hatchback shock absorber on the body.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Complex cold-forming geometry with undercut and ball, manufactured with split die technology
  • Captive and freely rotating washer pre-assembled

Steering

Steering gear fastening

These bolts fasten the steering gear of the vehicle onto the axle body.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Bolt geometry according to the standard or similar to the standard
  • Designed with pre-assembled, captive washer for optimal coupling properties
  • Special straightening processes are used due to the high length and diameter ratio of the bolt

Long shank ball stud

The long shank ball stud, together with the track rod head, form the tie rod that is necessary in order to execute a steering movement on the front axle.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Geometry manufactured with complex cold-forming technology
  • Special material concept achieves the necessary strength through the cold-forming process alone

Electrical

Housing tension bolt for E-motor

This long and thin bolt braces the E-motor housing.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Combination of small nominal thread diameter with an extremely long bolt length
  • Special heat treatment processes or straightening processes to assure straightness
  • Special materials enable avoidance of heat treatment and straightening processes with consistently high straightness requirements

Ball bolt

This blank of a ball bolt with hexagonal recess is used for the electronic parking brake (EPB). The spindle is driven via an electric motor, and upon activating the parking brake it presses on a cylinder, which in turn presses on the brake.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Special requirements are imposed on the shape position tolerances of the external hexalobular drive as well as the hexagon
  • Special requirements are imposed on length and diameter tolerances
  • Extensive measurements are necessary to assure quality, e.g. by using a 3D coordinate measurement machine

Exhaust

Stud

These heat-resistant and highly heat-resistant studs are frequently used to fasten the turbocharger or the exhaust manifold.

Requirements/characteristics:

  • Stud bolt design facilitates installation of the components through a fixation of the parts as they are fitted onto the stud bolt, since it holds the component in position
  • Special material selection of heat-resistant and highly heat-resistant materials depending on the operating temperature (up to 650°C)
  • Special coating selection because the threaded connection must remain serviceable in spite of the high operating temperature range
